BMW Motorrad to launch full range of bikes in India

BMW Motorrad is planning to launch its full range of bikes in the Indian market. This means that all BMW bikes, right from the entry-level G 310 R to the premium tourer K1600, will be available for Indian customers. The company has reportedly kept October 2016 as the deadline to launch these bikes in the country.

BMW Motorrad recognizes the fact that India is an extremely price sensitive market. As a result, the German two-wheeler manufacturer is looking for ways to lower prices of its offerings. In line with this plan, BMW might bring the Thailand assembled bikes to India. This would significantly lower prices of bikes like the F800R, S1000R, S1000RR, S1000XR, F700GS, F800GS, R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure. BMW assembles these bikes at a plant in Rayong, Thailand.

Premium bikes like the BMW R NineT and the K1600GTL are assembled only at the company's Berlin plant. Hence, both these bikes are expected to be brought in at hefty price tags.

The company is also reportedly planning to set up a dealership network in major cities, and might even use the existing BMW car network to stretch its legs in the Indian market. Through these new launches and a wide dealership network, BMW Motorrad is planning to compete in the premium motorcycle segment in India, which includes rivals like Ducati and Triumph.
