Mahindra discontinues Pantero, Duro, Flyte and Kine

Mahindra has eliminated four weak performers from its two-wheeler portfolio. The Pantero, Duro, Flyte and Kine have been discontinued.

The Pantero was a 110 cc, entry level bike. The Duro and the Flyte were 125 cc scooters while the Kine was a 71 cc entry level scooter. All of these failed to create any impact on the sales charts.

This move might seem to be too drastic, but Mahindra is re-inventing its two-wheeler line-up, hoping to meet the same success that it enjoys in the Utility Vehicle range. Going by the recent trends and advertisements, Mahindra seems to be aggressively focusing on the Centuro range of bikes, and Gusto and Rodeo scooters. Also, their ad campaigns are diverting the focus to the car-like features available on these two-wheelers.

Mahindra has acquired 51% in Peugeot Motorcyles (PMTC) earlier this year, products from which, might eventually make their way to India. The company recently registered the Luna and Luna TFR brands too, and while there is no official confirmation from the company, it might revive the Luna brand to take on the TVS-dominated moped segment too. The Mojo, 300 cc bike is also likely to hit the showrooms in the near future.
