Lexus named 2023's most reliable car brand: CR Study

Among the models listed, Toyota cars occupied 7 of the top 10 positions

According to a new Consumer Report study, Lexus & Toyota have topped the table as the most reliable car brands of 2023. While this isn't surprising, what is interesting is to see MINI in third, having outperformed several other Japanese carmakers.

Lexus & Toyota secured 79 and 76 out of 100, respectively, in CR's predicted reliability score. MINI scored 71 out of 100, just managing to edge past Acura & Honda, both of which secured 70/100.

Reports mentioned that CR collected data from 3,30,000 vehicles through surveys this year. This includes vehicles ranging mostly from 2000 to 2023 model years, with a handful of MY2024 examples as well. The study also covers 20 trouble areas, including the electric motor, battery pack & charging aspects for EVs.

The study also looked at region-based reliability, with Asian automakers maintaining a good average score of 63/100. This is far ahead of European and US automakers, lagging at 46/100 and 39/100, respectively.

Among the models listed, Toyota cars occupied 7 of the top 10 positions, with the 4Runner at the top. The Camry Hybrid, Camry & RAV4 Prime followed with the BMW X5 completing the top 5.

Consumer Reports also listed out the least reliable cars of 2023, with the Chrysler Pacifica, Volkswagen Taos & Ford F-150 Hybrid making up the top 3.
