Land Rover Discovery Sport spotted testing in India

Earlier this year, we had reported that Land Rover was planning to launch the Discovery Sport in India in August 2015. Now the SUV has been spotted testing in Navi Mumbai, near Mumbai.

The Discovery Sport replaces the Freelander 2 in markets all over the world. It adopts the same design language as the new Range Rover models. It gets a more curvaceous body than the Freelander 2. It is equipped with xenon headlamps, LED fog lamps and silver skid plates on its bumpers. On the inside, the SUV is expected to get Land Rover's new InControl 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, leather seats, electrically adjustable front seats, a 5+2 seating configuration, a panoramic roof and dual-zone climate control.

It is unclear what engine options will be offered in India. A previous report suggested that the Discovery Sport will come with a 2.2-litre, turbocharged diesel engine in 188 BHP and 147 BHP states of tune with a 9-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive system.

The Discovery Sport is produced at Land Rover’s manufacturing facility at Halewood, Liverpool. In India, it will be imported via the CKD route. It will be assembled at the Jaguar Land Rover plant in Chakan, near Pune.
