Kerala MVD to use Tata Nexon EVs for enforcement duties

The Kerala Motor Vehicle Department has ordered 65 Tata Nexon EVs that will be used for enforcement duties.

Kerala is said to be the first state in the country to deploy electric vehicles for enforcement duties. It has been reported that the electric SUVs will be leased out to the Kerala authorities by Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EESL). Once the cars are delivered, the MVD will install speed radars and sirens on the cars.

The Nexon EV uses a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery that powers an electric motor which has an output of 127 BHP and 245 Nm. The company claims that the car can do a 0-100 km/h sprint in 9.9 seconds. The car has an ARAI certified range of 312 km on a single charge. Using a DC fast charger, the batteries can be recharged to 80% of its capacity in 1 hour, while an AC charger takes 8-9 hours to charge to 100%.
