Jenson Button to remain at McLaren Honda for 2016

McLaren Honda has announced that Jenson Button will remain with the team for 2016. The announcement has put an end to rumours that the British racer was planning to retire at the end of the Formula One 2015 season.

Button won the 2009 Formula One World Driver's Championship with the Brawn GP Formula One Team. He left the team at the end of the season to join McLaren, where he was partnered by Lewis Hamilton. In 2011, he finished second in the championship and has always been among the top ten drivers in the sport. In 2015, McLaren has switched from Mercedes to Honda engines. The team has struggled with lack of pace and reliability and Button is placed eighteenth in the championship.

The team's poor form and inability to make an impact had led to speculation that Button would quit the sport. However, now it is confirmed that former champion will race in his seventeenth season.

Like this season, Button will partner Fernando Alonso in 2016.
