Jaguars new premium sedan to be named XE

Jaguar has announced the name of its new mid-sized premium sports sedan as the Jaguar XE.

The XE will be the first aluminium monocoque product in the segment. This aluminium architecture was showcased for the first time on the C-X17 concept car at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2013, which is configured to suit in-line and transverse installations for rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.

The new petrol and diesel engines will be named Ingenium, which will be four-cylinder 2-litre units. These will be built at Jaguar Land Rover's new UK Engine Manufacturing Facility. Engines are expected to be tuned for top speeds of over 300 km/h, and emissions lower than 100g of CO2 per km.

Global rollout for the XE will begin in 2015. Technical details and variants will be revealed later in 2014.
