Indian automakers could export unsold BS4 stock

According to a media report, Indian automakers might export their unsold BS4 stock to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Africa.

Exporting 2-wheelers to neighbouring countries is said to be easier than passenger cars or commercial vehicles, as the specifications, emissions and safety standards are similar.

Sale of BS4 vehicles will be stopped in India from April 1, 2020 and some dealerships still have unsold inventory. Besides this, sales have dried up due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is hearing a plea filed Hero MotoCorp and FADA seeking an extension to the March 31, 2020 deadline.
