Hyundai's upcoming MPV codenamed IP

In December 2014, we had reported that Hyundai was planning to introduce an MPV in India. According to a report by Economic Times, the vehicle will be codenamed "IP".

The MPV is likely to be based on the Hexa Space concept which was displayed at the 2012 Auto Expo and is expected to have a 7-seater layout. It is being speculated that the MPV will have a monocoque body shell and front-wheel drive. Both, petrol and turbocharged diesel engines and manual and automatic transmissions are expected to be offered.

The IP is likely to go on sale in 2017. It will be pitted against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Honda Mobilio, Renault Lodgy and Toyota Innova.

The utility vehicles segment is growing at a rapid pace in India. Almost a half a million units are being sold annually. The segment accounts for almost 21% of the overall market. Hyundai plans to have five products in the segment over the next 3-4 years.
