Hyundai has filed trademarks for five Genesis electric cars in India. These include the eG80, eG90, eGV70, eGV80 and eGV90.
Genesis is Hyundai's luxury sub-brand and there have been rumours of it being introduced in India sometime post 2020. Now, if you look at Genesis' naming convention, the eG80 and eG90 are likely to be sedans, while the eGV70, eGV80 and eGV90 are likely to be SUVs.
Genesis is developing a range of electric vehicles based on the E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform). The same platform will be shared among Hyundai's Ioniq range and Kia branded electric vehicles.
Hyundai's strategy for the introduction of the Genesis brand in India is still unknown. While we know that it will be positioned as the flagship brand, it's unclear if the company would kick things off by launching conventional combustion engine powered models or its all-electric range.
However, it wouldn't be a surprise if Genesis drives into India with its all-electirc range. It would compete with the likes of Mercedes-Benz, which has recently launched the EQC electric SUV, Audi, which plans to launch the e-tron, and Jaguar, which is gearing up to launch the I-Pace.
