Hyundai Nexo fuel cell powered SUV showcased in India

Hyundai showcased the Nexo - a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) at the India-Korea Business Summit held in Delhi. 

The Nexo FCEV was revealed at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in January. It is set to replace the Tucson FCEV in the global market. The Nexo measures 4,670 mm in overall length, 1,860 mm in width and 1,630 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,790 mm and a 52.2 litre fuel tank.

The crossover has a large V-shaped grille in the front. Like the Kona, it features a stacked headlamp and LED DRL setup with the main headlight placed in a separate, triangular pod below the V-shaped LED DRLs. The Nexo sports a coupe-like roofline and has retractable door handles, while the wheel arches are lined by plastic cladding. In the rear, the car features a raked windshield with an integrated spoiler on top and triangular tail lights.

The Hyundai Nexo is equipped with a 95 kW hydrogen fuel cell and a 40 kW battery pack that power an electric motor producing 161 BHP and 395 Nm of torque. Hyundai claims that the Nexo can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 9.2 seconds, while its top speed is 179 km/h. The Nexo has an estimated range of 800 km (New European Driving Cycle) / 609 km (Korean certificate basis).

The Nexo comes loaded with driver assistance systems and semi-autonomous features like lane-following assist, highway-driving assist, remote park-assist and blind spot monitoring system among others. In addition to the Nexo, Hyundai also showcased the Ioniq at the event.

According to the company, the Nexo is scheduled to arrive in Europe by mid-2018. The car is part of the company’s eco-strategy to introduce at least 15 new low-emission vehicles by 2020.
