Hyundai Kona Electric recalled in India over faulty battery

456 Kona Electric EVs sold in India have been recalled.

Hyundai has recalled the Kona Electric sold in India over faulty battery cells that could catch fire.

Cars manufactured between April 1, 2020 and October 31, 2020, are said to have been affected by this issue.

In October this year, Hyundai had announced a global recall of the Kona Electric after 13 incidents of fire involving the model were reported.

25,564 units of the Kona Electric manufactured between September 2017 and March 2020 were said to be affected.

The South Korean transport ministry had found that the faulty manufacturing of the high voltage battery cells could cause a short circuit resulting in a fire.
