Hyundai-Genesis GMR-001 LMDh hypercar unveiled

The team is said to establish its base at the Paul Ricard Circuit in the south of France

Hyundai Motor Group's, premium brand, Genesis, has unveiled their LMDh hypercar - GMR-001.

The new hypercar will make its racing debut in the 2026 season of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) under the Genesis Magma Racing name. Genesis will also extend its racing project to the IMSA Championship in the USA for the 2027 season.

The Genesis GMR-001 LMDh hypercar will make use of a chassis supplied by Oreca. It will be powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine, paired to a common hybrid unit that is supplied to all teams by Bosche, Williams Advanced Engineering & Xtrac. Genesis will rival other carmakers such as Porsche, Lamborghini, Alpine & BMW in the LMDh category.

Ahead of its WEC 2026 debut, the Genesis Magna Racing team will collaborate with IDEC Sport for an LMP2 entry in the 2025 European Le Mans Series. The team is said to establish its base at the Paul Ricard Circuit in the south of France, allowing them to be close to both Oreca & IDEC Sport's headquarters.

Driving the GMR-001 will be Andre Lotterer - the newly crowned WEC champion, along with Luis 'Pipo' Derani, a 4-time Sebring 12 Hours winner. Former Renault F1 boss, Cyril Abiteboul, will be Genesis Magma Racing's team principal.
