Hyundai evaluating luxury brand Genesis for India

The focus of the feasibility study seems to be on the Genesis G80 sedan and the GV80 SUV.

In May 2019, there were rumours about Hyundai planning to introduce its Genesis luxury brand in India. It has now been confirmed that the carmaker is conducting feasibility studies.

SS Kim, MD and CEO, Hyundai India, has revealed that the carmaker is evaluating the Genesis brand for India. He also stated that it was too early to talk about definitive plans and launch dates.

It seems the focus of the feasibility study is on the Genesis G80 sedan and the GV80 SUV. Both cars were showcased during the inauguration of Hyundai India's new headquarters in Gurgaon.

The G80 could compete with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series in India. In the international market, the G80 is offered with three engine options. These include a 2.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol, a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. All engines come standard with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The GV80 comes with three engine options - a 2.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol, a 3.5-litre turbo V6 petrol, and a straight-6 3.0-litre diesel engine. It could lock horns with the Mercedes-Benz GLE and BMW X5.
