Hyundai builds 200 cars on first production day post lockdown

Hyundai resumed production at its manufacturing plant near Chennai on May 8, 2020. On the first day of production post lockdown, the carmaker built 200 cars.

Earlier this month, Hyundai had reopened its Chennai facility in preparation for restarting production. The factory was shutdown on March 22, after the government announced a countrywide lockdown to contain the spread of Covid-19.

In April 2020, the government decided to relax lockdown measures in certain parts of the country to promote the resumption of economic activities. Following this announcement, automakers are slowly restarting their factories. Dealerships have also started resuming operations.
