I travelled back to Bangalore from Mysore yesterday and had a near miss with a KSRTC when I was casually cruising near the speed limit in the centre lane which is the fast lane.
As you can see in the video below, there are multiple things wrong here. The Creta is driving at around 90kmph on the right lane, which is the overtaking lane and shouldn't be used unless you are overtaking. Heavy vehicles, including buses, should stick to the left lane (slow lane) and should not enter the centre lane (fast lane) or the right lane (overtake lane) unless they are overtaking. The KSRTC bus driver suddenly decided to take the fast lane (without checking the mirrors or giving an indicator) even though the lane ahead of him was completely empty.
As soon as my reflexes kicked in, I slammed on the brakes, the Scorpio N with disc brakes all around and 255-section tyres screeched due to the amount of deceleration. Luckily, since there was no one in the right lane, I could swerve and avoid the crash. I thought of slowing him down and letting him know what he did, but later decided not to as you can never change such people and it is never a good idea to stop on an E-Way.
Imposing silly speed limits is not the solution to avoid accidents in a country where people just don't understand lane discipline. I'm sorry, but Indians can never have an Autobahn experience, even if the roads are as good as the Autobahn!
