Japanese carmaker Suzuki is well on its way to setting up its new manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The foundation stone for the plant was laid on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 by the Chief Minister of the state.
Located in Hansalpur, the new plant will be built on a campus of 640 acres of land, which will have an integrated suppliers' park. The plant is being constructed with an investment of Rs. 3,000 crore (approximately) and is expected to start rolling out vehicles by mid-2017. It will have an annual production capacity of 2,50,000 units. This will be the first of three plants that Suzuki plans to set up at Hansalpur. Once all the three facilities are functional, a total of 7,50,000 cars are expected to be manufactured annually.
The vehicles manufactured at these facilities will be supplied exclusively to Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL).
