Ford Fiesta to launch in diesel only

Ford showcased the facelifted Fiesta sedan in India at the 2014 Auto Expo which was held earlier this year. While we knew that the Fiesta featured cosmetic changes, the car was expected to continue with the same range of engines as the current model.

However, it now turns out that Ford is likely to launch the new Fiesta with only with a diesel engine. According to the car's brochure, it will be powered by the familiar 1.5-litre unit that produces 89 bhp and 204 Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The company has not mentioned any details of a petrol engine for the car.

The Fiesta will come in three variants - Ambiente (base), Trend (mid) and Titanium (top end). Standard equipment across all variants includes 'guide me home' headlamps, height adjustable driver's seat, split-folding rear seat, remote locking and electrically adjustable mirrors.

The Ambiente misses out on a number of features that are available on the higher variants, like fog lamps, audio system, leather-wrapped steering wheel, body coloured mirrors and door handles, wheel covers, cruise control and footwell lamps. The Trend gets six-speaker audio system with CD, USB and Aux-in connectivity and full wheel covers. The Titanium adds alloy wheels, automatic headlamps and wipers, puddle lamps, electrically folding mirrors, keyless entry and go, rear parking sensors, ambient cabin lighting, advanced MID, and 'Sync' with 'Emergency Assist'.

All variants get ABS with EBD but while the Ambiente gets only a driver airbag, the Trend and Titanium variants come with airbags for the driver and front passenger.

The faceifted Fiesta is expected to be launched next month.
