Ducati 1299 Superleggera launched in India at Rs. 1.12 crore

Ducati has launched the 1299 Superleggera in India at a price of Rs. 1.12 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). Ducati had globally unveiled the bike in November last year at the EICMA show. The Italian bike maker has thus brought it to India within 2 months of its global launch.

Ducati claims that the 1299 Superleggera is the world's lightest mass-produced motorcycle with a twin-cylinder engine. It weighs just 167 kg. This exceptionally light weight of the bike is a result of extensive use of carbon fibre in monocoque frame, swingarm and wheels. Various other parts, including the screws used to keep things in place, have been made using titanium. All these lightweight parts have helped Ducati to lower the bike's weight by around 40%.

Powering the 1299 Superleggera is a 1285 cc twin-cylinder Superquadro engine that has been borrowed from the Panigale. However, in the Superleggera, this engine has been tuned to generate 212 BHP. Ducati also offers a race kit version that is even more powerful, at 218 BHP and 147 Nm of torque. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed gearbox that also gets a quickshifter.

The Ducati 1299 Superleggera also comes with various rider-assistance and safety features to help keep it under control. These include Bosch cornering ABS, Ducati Slide Control, Engine Brake control, Ducati Power Launch and Ducati Traction Control.
