Diesel price hiked by 50 paise, petrol unchanged

The price of diesel has been increased by 50 paise from October 1, 2015. As a result of this hike, it will cost Rs. 44.95 per litre in Delhi. The price of petrol has not been changed.

The hike in the price of diesel comes after five successive reductions since July 1. According to Indian Oil Corporation, the hike was necessary since the Rupee has depreciated against the US Dollar.

Fuel prices are reviewed every fortnight in India. Prices are hiked or lowered according to international rates and the Rupee - US Dollar exchange rate.

Residents of Maharashtra will have to pay more for both petrol and diesel. The state government has imposed a surcharge of Rs. 2 on both fuels. It is trying to raise funds to pay farmers for the losses they have incurred due to unseasonal rains and drought.
