According to reports, Mercedes-Benz has decided to kill off its EQS sedan after only one generation. Instead, the EQS will be replaced with an all-new S-Class EV, which will be sold alongside its ICE-powered sibling.
Ola Kallenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz, confirmed the news, stating, "There will be two S-classes in the future—ICE and electric."
The new-generation S-Class ICE and EV will, like its rival, the BMW 7 Series, share similar exterior and interior styling. This is also the second time that Mercedes will offer ICE and EV variants of the same car, with the first being the G-wagon and its EV counterpart - G580 with EQ Technology.
Reports also state that while the styling of the two S-Class variants will be similar, the ICE and EV versions will be built on different platforms. The S-Class EV will be based on a dedicated EV platform, while the ICE version will use the updated MRA architecture.
The new-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class models are expected to debut in 2030.
