Deregister diesel cars over 10 years old: NGT to Delhi RTO

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked the Delhi RTO to immediately revoke registrations of all diesel vehicles which are over 10 years old. Additionally, NGT has also asked the RTO officials to make a detailed list of vehicles that have been de-registered under this order, and send it to the Delhi Police, so that the violators can be prosecuted.

NGT had previously banned all diesel vehicles more than 10 years old from plying on Delhi roads. But that order somehow could not be implemented, mainly due to lack of enforcement. As a result, the tribunal has now ordered immediate action from the RTO as well as Delhi Police authorities to make sure that the order is enforced with immediate effect.

A judicial bench headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar, NGT Chairperson, gave the aforementioned directions to the Delhi Regional Transport Office (RTO).
