Delhi: Diesel car ban extended till further notice

Earlier this month, we had reported that the ban on registration of diesel cars in Delhi with an engine capacity more than 2,000cc was extended till May 9 (click here to read report). Now, the Supreme Court has once again extended the ban until further notice.

The ban on registration of diesel cars with engines larger than 2,000cc was enforced in December 2015 and was applicable till March 31, 2016. This was extended to April 30 and then to May 9.

The Supreme Court had also asked all the taxis in the NCR to convert to CNG before March 1, 2016. The date was pushed forward to March 31 and then to April 30. Now, the court has issued a statement saying that the taxis running on diesel with all-India permits will be allowed to run on the streets of Delhi until their permits expire.

No new registrations of diesel taxis will be permitted in Delhi. Only taxis running on dual-fuel (CNG/petrol), petrol or CNG will be permitted to register.
