Citroen C3 Sporty sub-4m SUV caught testing

The first spy images of Citroen's sub-4 meter crossover for the Indian market have surfaced online. A test mule of the vehicle, which is rumoured to be called the C3 Sporty (codenamed: C21), was spotted in Pune.

The heavily camouflaged test mule appears to be an early development prototype. As is the case with most Citroen models, the C3 Sporty could feature a quirky exterior with headlamps positioned on the front bumper and slim LED daytime running lights on top. The car also appears to have a coupe-like roofline, typical of Citroen cars.

The C3 Sporty is part of Citroen's C-Cubed program, under which, the company plans to launch four new products in India by 2023. It will be built in India, but its engines and transmissions are likely to be imported.

The C3 Sporty could be based on the company's modular CMP platform. Media reports suggest that the car could be offered with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Puretech petrol engine, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

An electric variant with an output of 134 BHP and 260 Nm and a 50 kWh battery offering a claimed maximum range of 330 km could also be on cards. Citroen might also offer a lower variant with a smaller 37 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 230 km.
