Canada: Hyundai Kona EV explodes causing a garage fire

According to a media report, a Hyundai Kona EV in Canada exploded resulting in a garage fire.

It is said that the car, which was bought in March, was parked in the garage and was not plugged in. The owner reportedly saw dark clouds of smoke from the garage and then the car exploded. The explosion is said to have blown the garage door off. It is also reported that firefighters did not find any other factors inside the garage that could have caused an explosion.

In India, the Hyundai Kona EV is offered with a 39.2 kWh battery and an electric motor, which has an output of 134 BHP and 395 Nm. The car has an ARAI-certified range of 452 km and takes 6 hours and 10 minutes to charge to 100% using an AC charger. Using a DC fast charger, it takes 57 minutes to recharge the battery to 80% of its capacity.
