BYD Seal EV spotted in India; Bookings open unofficially

The BYD Seal will take on the likes of the Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

The BYD Seal EV has been spotted testing in India for the first time. The electric sedan from the Chinese carmaker was spotted testing on the outskirts of Chennai, suggesting an imminent launch in the Indian market.

Reports state that the BYD Seal EV could go on sale in the Indian market sometime in March 2024, with dealers already accepting bookings unofficially for the same. The BYD Seal EV was first showcased in India at the Auto Expo 2023. The car measures 4,800 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width and 1,460 mm in height.

In terms of design, the Seal EV features a coupe-like all-glass roof, flush-fitting door handles, split LED headlights with boomerang-shaped LED DRLs, a full-width LED light bar at the rear. Inside, the BYD Seal comes with a large 15.6-inch central touchscreen infotainment system, similar to that on the Atto 3. There is also a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a head-up display. Other features include a central rotary knob to select the various drive modes, dual wireless charging pads and speakers integrated to the door handles - similar to that seen on the Atto 3.

Globally, the BYD Seal comes with two battery pack options. The first is a 61.4 kWh pack offering 500 km of driving range, while the second is an 82.5 kWh pack with up to 700 km of range. The electric sedan can also be had with a single or dual-motor setup, paired with both batteries. Reports suggest the dual-motor powertrain could be the one to make its way to India. The electric powertrain produces 530 BHP and is said to be capable of sprinting from 0 - 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

The BYD Seal is a direct rival to the Tesla Model 3 in international markets. In India though, it will take on the likes of the Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
