Bugatti Tourbillon hypercar globally unveiled

Bugatti claims that the Tourbillon can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 2 seconds, while 0-299 km/h takes just 10 seconds.

Bugatti has unveiled their all-new hypercar in the form of the Tourbillon.

The new Bugatti Tourbillon is a direct replacement to the brand's Chiron and features a completely fresh look, while also featuring a brand new powertrain and mechanicals underneath. The new hypercar is also the first Bugatti to feature a hybridised V16 engine, replacing the old W16, which powered both its predecessors, the Chiron and Veyron.

The name 'Tourbillon' refers to the tiny mechanism in high-end watches which helps maintain time accuracy. Mate Rimac, CEO of Bugatti, refers to the hypercar as "art on wheels, a moving painting." Bugatti is said to produce just 250 units of the new hypercar, with each model having a starting price of GBP 3.2 million.

In terms of design, the Tourbillon is a completely new model, with none of its components being borrowed from the Chiron. The hypercar features a large horseshoe-shaped grille at the front, flanked on either side by quad LED headlamps. The signature spine can be seen running along the centre of the car. From the side, another signature element, the 'Bugatti Line' gets a new interpretation. The rear gets full-width LED tail lights with 'Bugatti' lettering at the centre. It also features a massive diffuser at the bottom with quad exhaust tips integrated seamlessly.

Inside, the Tourbillon features a completely refreshed cabin and dashboard layout, with plenty of analogue dials and controls. The gauge cluster has been heavily inspired by the mechanical movement in high-end watches. There is a small display with Apple CarPlay connectivity, however, it is hidden in the dashboard and deployed only upon the driver's request. The standout feature on the Tourbillon's interiors though is the steering wheel, wherein the hub and gauges stay in place with only the wheel rotating around it.

The Bugatti Tourbillon is powered by a naturally aspirated V16 hybrid power unit. The IC engine alone produces 1000 BHP & 900 Nm. This combined with the three electric motors, gives the hypercar a total power output of 1,800 BHP. The new powertrain is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Bugatti claims that the Tourbillon can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 2 seconds, while 0-299 km/h takes just 10 seconds. Bugatti claims a top speed of 445 km/h for the Tourbillon, however, Mate Rimac states "Let's say this is not the maximum..."
