Brought home the 2023 Nexon EV: A journey filled with laughter & sorrow

With 7,500 kilometers under my belt, and a few hair-raising experiences to boot, the journey continues.

BHPian srini1994 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

My Odyssey with the TATA NEXON EV Empowered Plus LR

Hey there, fellow team-bhpians! Buckle up because I'm about to take you on a ride through the twists and turns of my recent car purchase. This tale might just be as much about heartstrings as it is about horsepower. So, hold on tight!

(My first post - kindly pardon my lengthy post)

Revving Up My Car Credentials:

Coming from a lineage where our family tree is intertwined with car models, from the vintage Padmini to the sleek Kia Seltos, automobiles have been more than just vehicles—they've been part of the family. With each new addition, whether it was the purr of the engine or the feel of the steering wheel, my automotive education grew. Fast forward to today, where my wife and I, both medical professionals, found ourselves in Chennai, ready to kickstart a new chapter with a fresh set of wheels.

Cruising into the Need for Change:

As a daily commuter racking up 110-150 kilometers a day, the wear and tear on my trusty VW Vento TDI was becoming more evident than a tire skid mark. With roads resembling a lunar landscape, an aging engine, and a clutch that protested like a stubborn mule, the writing was on the wall—or rather, the odometer. The search for a new set of wheels became as urgent as a patient in the ER. Enter stage left: the allure of electric vehicles (EVs). With their promises of lower emissions and reduced fuel costs, I was hooked faster than a fish on a line.

Choices, Choices Everywhere, and One Nexon EV:

Surveying the market, I felt like a kid searching for candy in a pharmacy, with only a couple of EV options. But after diving into the sea of reviews and comparisons, the Nexon EV Max Dark Edition emerged as the shining star in my constellation of choices(my budget particularly). Despite initial reservations about the interiors feeling as luxurious as a budget hotel, a test drive to my workplace erased any doubts faster than a Tesla on Ludicrous mode. Booking it at the FPL TATA Motors, Korattur branch felt like sealing the deal with a rev of the engine (you could say DC motor). Waited for the facelift launch and finally fixed with the empowered plus LR – oxide colour.

A Rollercoaster Ride to Delivery Day:

Fast forward to D-day, where anticipation hung in the air thicker than rush hour traffic. But as fate would have it, the delivery process unfolded like a comedy of errors. From software glitches to a gear shift hiccup that left my wife, eight months pregnant, feeling like she'd stumbled onto a stick shift for the first time, it was a circus worthy of its own Netflix special.

On the Road Again, and Again:

With the keys finally in hand, I embarked on my maiden voyage, only to find myself in a game of whack-a-mole with warning lights and performance glitches. It was like driving with a backseat driver or the boomer aunties (I’m not a sexiest, I assure) who constantly reminded you of their presence. But like any good protagonist, I soldiered on, reaching my destination despite the odds, albeit with a few more grey hairs and a newfound respect for roadside assistance.

Bumps in the Road, and a Light at the End of the Tunnel:

As the weeks rolled by, so did the list of issues, from parking woes to warning lights that seemed to have a mind of their own. But with each setback came a glimmer of hope, as TATA Motors rallied their troops to rectify the glitches faster than you can say "recall."

Fast Forward to the Present:

With 7500 kilometers under my belt, and a few hair-raising experiences to boot, the journey continues. Sure, there have been hiccups along the way, but isn't that what makes every road trip memorable? As I look ahead to the 10,000-kilometer milestone, I do so with optimism and a healthy dose of caution, knowing that with every bump in the road comes a story worth sharing.

In Conclusion:

So, there you have it, folks, my rollercoaster ride from showroom to highway. It's been a journey filled with laughter, frustration, and everything in between. But as they say, it's not the destination that matters, but the memories made along the way. And let me tell you, with the Nexon EV Empowered Plus LR, it’s a great driving experience.

To summarize the issues and their current status :

  1. Faulty LED drls – changed
  2. Unknown warning chimes – rectified with a software update
  3. Wireless android auto gets disconnected and reconnects now and then – to check on wired mode
  4. Sluggish gear shift – rectified with a software update
  5. Excess vibration in the brake pedal while honking – rectified by changing position of the horn
  6. Tail red lights weren’t working in regen level 2 and 3 – rectified with software update
  7. A-mount rust – pending (parts arrived at the service centre)
  8. Zconnect app shows someone else’s car at Aurangabad – telematics need to be changed or worked on with an EV trained personnel from bangalore (as conveyed over mail from the TATAMO.
  9. Tight glove box – to be oiled or greased at the next visit

I’ll update you guys with a proper driving experience and review @ 10k odo mark.

For now, attaching a couple of photos of the vehicle and the issues.
