Renault has announced the name of its new upcoming 7-seater SUV. It will be called the Boreal. The SUV will be unveiled in the coming months. It will be launched in Latin America first, followed by 70 countries outside Europe.
The SUV will debut in Brazil and Renault says it has put a lot of thought in the name. It is derived from Boreas, the god of the wind in Greek mythology. It is also derived from “north wind” in Latin.
Renault’s Naming Strategy Manager, Sylvia dos Santos, said this makes Boreal an apt name for an SUV as it implies strength and a “status-enhancing design.” She added that it evokes thoughts of aurora borealis, famously known as the Northern Lights.
Renault says the name perfectly encapsulates the values that the SUV stands for: technology, status and comfort.
India is expected to get the Boreal sometime in 2026. The Boreal will essentially be a 7-seater version of the Duster. Renault is also expected to launch the new Duster in India, its popular SUV nameplate that was discontinued a few years ago.
The Boreal SUV is part of Renault’s International Game Plan 2027.
