Beijing: Porsche unveils 718 Cayman and 718 Cayman S

Porsche has unveiled the 718 Cayman and 718 Cayman S at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show.

The 718 Cayman has the same turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine as the 718 Boxster. This 2.0-litre unit produces 295 BHP and 380 Nm of torque. The 718 Cayman S is powered by a 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that develops 345 BHP and 420 Nm of torque. It has a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry.

Porsche claims that the 718 Cayman with PDK and the optional Sport Chrono Package sprints from 0 to 100 kph in 4.7 seconds, while the 718 Cayman S completes this sprint in 4.2 seconds. The claimed top speed of the 718 Cayman is 275 kph, while that of the 718 Cayman S is 285 km/h.

The 718 Cayman range comes with 330 mm and 299 mm disc brakes at the front and rear respectively. The 718 Cayman now uses the brake system that was previously used in the Cayman S. The 718 Cayman S, on the other hand, uses the four-piston callipers of the 911 Carrera combined with 6 mm thicker brake discs.

The cars feature bi-xenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights and redesigned tail lamps. LED headlights with four-point daytime running lights are available as an option. Porsche Communication Management (PCM) is available as a standard.

Porsche has started taking orders for the 718 Cayman and 718 Cayman S. In Germany, prices for the 718 Cayman start at 51,623 Euros. Prices for the 718 Cayman S start at 64,118 Euros. Deliveries in European markets are scheduled to begin at the end of September 2016.
