Audi e-tron S & e-tron S Sportback electric SUVs revealed

Audi has revealed two new performance versions of its e-tron electric SUV called the e-tron S and the e-tron S Sportback.

The e-tron S is a four-door SUV, while the Sportback is a four-door coupe. The S models are wider than the standard e-tron. On the inside, both cars get dual touchscreens and a digital instrument cluster.

The e-tron S and e-tron S Sportback are powered by three electric motors. Two of these power the rear axle, while the third one powers the front axle. The ones on the rear have a peak output of 390 BHP, while the single motor on the front axle produces 201 BHP. The combined output is 429 BHP and 808 Nm. In Boost mode, the electric motors deliver 496 BHP and 963 Nm.

Audi claims the e-tron S and e-tron S Sportback can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and their top speed is 210 km/h. Both cars use 95 kWh batteries and have a maximum range of 360 km and 365 km (WLTP cycle) respectively.

The e-tron S and e-tron S Sportback feature electric torque vectoring. In normal operation, only the rear motors power the car. The front motor is only activated when additional power is required. The cars don't require a rear differential as the electric motors send power via a transmission.
