Active bike insurance shows as expired on Vahan portal: Finding a fix

I've sent the required documents to update the policy - but that doesn't feel like it'll fix the issue.

BHPian citylights01 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Hey guys,

Apologies for a super long post in advance, but I wanted to draw the full picture and not miss the context.

I was trying to get a NOC for my Two-wheeler (Access 125 bought in 2019) from our RTO (Gandhinagar) - The RTO helpdesk said to file it online since all such applications are filed online now. I did that, the and documents got verified and everything, but they can't issue a NOC from their end because the system shows there's no active insurance on my vehicle.

When I bought it in 2019, I got a 1 year comprehensive + Additional 4 years (total 5 years) Third Party/TP insurance. Over the years, I've been renewing for First Party and Personal Accident Insurance through Policy Bazaar since it was cheaper there, the showroom was quoting 3X that. My current active policy is both for Personal Accident & First Party.

I called them and they mentioned that the active TP policy showing from my vehicle is from a different insurer (which was the first-party policy I bought last year) and they need to be the ones updating it with VAHAN. I called them and they said they don't have any active policies for my vehicle, and to double-check the policy schedule for it. I checked my Policy schedule - it said that the active TP Policy was from another different Insurance, for some reason (with expiry in 2024), strangely that is the First Party Policy I bought for the year before that, which also indeed actually expired in 1 year. Their customer support lines went unanswered.

I dug up the docket that the showroom handed me when I bought the vehicle, and in there was the original copy of the first insurance, so I just decided to give them a call. This is what I see on the VAHAN vehicle details page, btw, no mention of the TP Policy cover that extends till 2024 June.

I called them up, they mentioned that my policy doesn't have the vehicle's registration number updated in it - probably because the policy was generated while the vehicle didn't complete the registration (indeed the case, the policy schedule doesn't show the Registration number, only Engine number and 5 digits of Chassis) and they were only able to fetch it using the Engine number. So that's why it isn't synced, and I'll need it to be updated first and then they'll be able to update it with VAHAN. This doesn't make sense because the comprehensive policy seems to have synced with VAHAN right, the TP cover was part of the same policy, it should have shown that as well.

Either way, I've sent the required docs for them to update the registration number on the Policy - but that doesn't feel like it'll fix the issue.

Any ideas on how I could get this fixed with the VAHAN database?

Here's what BHPian anjan_c2007 had to say on the matter:

Rather than only calling them up, please visit your insurer's office with all your vehicle documents. If feeling troubled by the staff, please meet the branch head narrating the issue. The policy can only be updated on the VAHAN portal by the insurer who issues it and no one else.

It's like a child saying he had come to school yesterday, but the teacher had marked him absent. He can prove his presence in school by showing the class notes he jotted down yesterday and also answering questions from his teachers to prove his presence.

Here's what BHPian TorquePull had to say on the matter:

Email them with details and they can fix it in a few hours.

My Liva's insurance wasn't showing on the Vaahan portal, it was part of mandatory TP insurance and I found this towards the end of 3rd year only. I contacted the Toyota dealer and their insurance department asked me to share a screenshot on WhatsApp, which I did and within a few hours, they sent a screenshot showing it has been updated from their end. I checked and found it was updated.
