6th-gen Audi A4 to get full-electric & hybrid variants

The sixth-generation Audi A4 is expected to debut in 2023, with the all-electric A4 E-tron in 2024.

The sixth-generation Audi A4 is expected to debut in 2023. A recent report sheds light on the powertrain options that will be offered in the upcoming sedan.

The new A4 will be offered with petrol and diesel engines equipped with either mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid technologies. Interestingly, an all-electric 4-wheel drive RS Performance model, as well as a hybrid RS4 variant are likely to be on cards.

The all-electric A4 E-tron is already under development and is due in 2024. The car is based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture that will be shared with the A6 E-tron, Q6 E-tron and the second-generation Porsche Macan.

The A4 E-tron will be offered in single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations. The top-spec RS Performance model is expected to pack 469 BHP and 800 Nm.

The regular A4 will be based on a modified MLB platform that will support plug-in hybrid models. The platform will also support the new 48V electric architecture and a rear structure that could accommodate a 14.4 kWh lithium-ion battery.

The 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine will be updated to comply with Euro 7 emission standards. It will be offered with a 7-speed dual-clutch or 8-speed automatic transmission only.

The RS4 will receive an electrified version of the 2.9-litre, twin-turbo V6 petrol engine.
