6 months with my Jupiter 125; Likes, dislikes and overall experience

There is an urge in me to get a 200 or 350 cc bike, but then due to current situation it would not be possible.

BHPian Gautham_v6 recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

I have been using the Jupiter 125 SX (SmartXconnect) edition since March.

Things to appreciate:

1. Good pickup.
2. Practical features are really useful.
3. Disc brake gives decent feedback compared to drum brake at rear, but TVs could still work on improving their brakes.
4. Mileage is 50 kmpl for the most part.
5. Underseat storage is very abundant.
6. Silent start and exhaust note.
7. Easy to handle.
8. Wide floorboard.

Things that could be better:

1.Provision on utility box light ( I don't understand why would TVS need customers to purchase this separately instead of providing a standard fittment or atleast provide it during mandatory accessory fittment?).
2. The all in one lock mechanism ( 8/10 times it works fine, sometimes opening the fuel cap becomes difficult and at times i have ended up turning on the scooter.)
3. Vibrations post 50 kmph ( A standard thing right from my previous jupiter 110. Not sure why TVS couldn't improve the NVH/ vibrations after all.).
4. Suspension( I feel no difference with suspension. For a soft setup suspension, this feels stiff. My taibone usually pains when the reqr suspension gives jolt on worst of the roads.
5. Tyres ( Grip is non existent , i have fallen off once 30 days post my scooter purchase. Sometimes it would lead me to question my confidence when going through corners. TVS must
stop providing the Srichakra tyres till they have nailed the tyre grip part.).
6. Seat comfort( Never felt comfortable at all in baf roads. Had resulted in back pain for most part).
7. Headlight ( Illumination is not.upto the mark. On rainy days, it was more difficult to ride with lights that were non-existent).
8. TVS intelligo system ( What should have been useful is one of the not useful features. There gave been instances where the system did not start the scooter. Wish they could have given an engine kill switch in it's place.).
9. Official crashguard fitting ( Very poor design or fitting, resultung in panel gap around the number plate light housing).

Isssues faced:

Service:

1. Paint correction : Due to painting job at office , few spots of paint fell on my scooter. During 1st free service , informed the advisor to remove the paint. The end result was very pathetic wherein at one part of the body, the paint finish was so shoddy that it looked like the paint could peel anytime and also it looked like the scooter had some dent. Which was not there before. Later had to argue with the service center people and then we had to accept it as such , since it was waste of time.
2. Lock mechanism jammed: The next day after 1st service , the lock failed to work. Had to call the service center to pick the scooter and fix the lock . After multiple calls the scooter was picked up and the lock was replaced under warranty.
3. Fuel cap mechanism is hit or miss sometimes.
4. Smartxconnect is one of the poorest implementations by TVS. Things like capturing voice command have been made so complicated for the most part. Also none of the commands could be typed by text.

Overall it is a very liveable scooter for city use. But right now I am at a stage where I am starting to regret my purchase.

As a 28 year old individual, I was setting my mind to go for a motorcycle but due to lack of experience riding one, had to settle for a scooter. There is an urge in me to get a 200 or 350 cc bike, but then due to current situation it would not be possible. I am still thinking if I cross 30 and then buy a high displacement bike, would I be regretting for not buying a bike at my 20s?

Only time would tell.
