2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class engine options leaked

According to a media report, the next generation Mercedes S-Class will be offered with a range of mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid as well as regular petrol and diesel engines.

According to the report, the S500 will be offered with an EQ Boost mild-hybrid powertrain featuring a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor. The petrol engine is said to produce 521 Nm, while the electric motor can put out 250 Nm.

The S580e plug-in hybrid variant will be powered by the same 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder engine and electric motor combination with a maximum output of 500 BHP. The car will have a claimed all-electric range of 96 km thanks to a 28 kWh battery pack. Mercedes is said to have lowered the rear axle to integrate the battery pack so that luggage space isn't compromised.

The S580 will be powered by a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 engine producing 492 BHP and 700 Nm. It will come with an integrated starter generator (ISG) adding another 18 BHP. Both the S580 and S580e will have an all-wheel drive system. The top-spec Maybach models will continue to be powered by a 6.0-litre V12 engine.

Mercedes will also offer a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder diesel engine producing 280 BHP and 600 Nm in the new S-Class. This engine will be available in European and Chinese markets.

Finally, Mercedes-Benz is also developing an all-electric version called the EQS.
