Images of the upcoming Suzuki Jimny that were taken during a private screening of the car have surfaced online. Further, photos of parked Jimnys at one of the Japanese factories have led to a confirmation of the car's impending launch.

The 2018 Jimny gets G-Wagen inspired exteriors. The front end gets a 5-slat black grille, round projector headlamps, turn indicators and circular fog lamps housed in the bumper. It also gets twin 5-spoke blackened alloy wheels and a crease along the sides that joins the flared wheel arches. The showcased model was painted in a dual tone colour scheme with a black roof and had black ORVMs with integrated turn signals. The windscreen houses a cut-out portion in the center that could house sensors for the auto wipers and headlamps along with the cameras and the radar for the autonomous braking safety feature.

The Jimny will be offered as a 3-door and will come in different trim levels. Previous leaked images of the interior revealed a central touchscreen, revised dashboard with a grab handle on the passenger side, climate control system and a three-spoke steering wheel.

The Jimmy will be powered by a set of petrol engines. While there has been no official word on the same, it is likely to get a 660cc, 3-cylinder engine for the Kei car version, a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine in Japan, Europe and Australia, a 1.2-liter dual jet engine and a conventional 1.2-litre petrol unit. It will also have four-wheel drive and a low range gearbox.

The Gypsy sold in India is based on the long wheelbase Jimmy. Global production of the 3rd-gen Jimny stopped in 2018 to make way for the 4th-generation. The car is expected to be launched at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2018.
