2017 Triumph Street Triple range unveiled in UK

Triumph has unveiled the new Street Triple range of naked motorcycles in the UK. The bike is available in three variants - S, R and RS. The new Street Triple is expected to be launched in India later this year.

The updated bike is powered by a new 765 cc engine that has been derived from the Daytona 675. Triumph engineers have comprehensively revised the engine, as it gets more than 80 new parts, including the crank, Nikasil plated aluminium barrels and new cams. Triumph claims that only 10 percent of the engine components have been carried forward from the earlier Street Triple. The new engine is also lighter than the previous model's power mill by around 1.5 kg.

This engine delivers 111 BHP on the Street Triple S, 116 BHP on the Street Triple R, while the top-end RS trim is rated at 121 BHP. All models come with a 6-speed transmission, a slip and assist slipper clutch and a quick shifter.

Triumph has loaded the RS variant with various performance-oriented parts. Suspension duties on the Street Triple RS are handled by 41 mm Showa separate function forks at the front and Ohlins STX40 monoshock at the rear. Braking setup includes Brembo-sourced 310 mm discs at the front and a 220 mm unit at the rear, along with switchable ABS.

The new Street Triple is built on the existing chassis of the earlier model, though it gets new mounting points and a revised swingarm. The characteristic bug-eyed twin headlamps come with full-LED illumination, while the bodywork gets some sharper lines. The new Street Triple also gets a fully digital instrument cluster that consists of a 5-inch TFT display which can be controlled through a 5-way joystick. Other features include switchable traction control and ride-by-wire.
