2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire launched at Rs. 5.45 lakh

Maruti Suzuki has launched the third-generation Dzire in India at a starting price of Rs. 5.45 lakh for the petrol range and Rs. 6.45 lakh for the diesel models (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). For its new generation, the compact sedan has ditched the Swift name from its moniker and is thus only called as the Dzire, unlike its predecessors that had the Swift Dzire branding.

The 2017 Dzire is available in two engine and two transmission options. It can be opted in a total of 4 trim levels - LXi/LDi, VXi/VDi, ZXi/ZDi and ZXi+/ZDi+. The top-end trim is equipped with features like LED projector headlamps, daytime running lights, 15-inch two-tone alloy wheels and a 7.0-inch Smartplay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and navigation support.

The new Dzire is built on the HEARTECT platform, which also underpins the Baleno and the yet to be launched new-gen Swift. The width of the car has been increased by 40 mm, while the wheelbase span has been upped by 20 mm. Maruti claims that this increase in dimensions has translated into an addition of 55 mm of leg room at the rear. Meanwhile, the height has been reduced by 40 mm, while the ground clearance is now down by 7 mm. It has 378 litres of boot space, 62 litres more than that of the outgoing model.

Powering the new Dzire is the same set of engines that were found on the previous generation model. However, the engines have been tuned to suit the new car's characteristics. The 1.2-litre, four-cylinder K-series petrol engine churns out 82 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque @ 4,200 rpm, while the 1.3-litre, four-cylinder DDiS diesel unit is rated at 74 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm @ 2,000 rpm. Both engines get a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, while a 5-speed AMT unit is also on offer from the V-trim onwards, with both - petrol and diesel engines. The 2017 Dzire petrol's company claimed fuel economy figure is 22 km/l, while that of the diesel is 28.40 km/l.

Maruti is also offering standard safety features with the new Dzire, including dual airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, front seat belts with pretensioners and force limiters and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

The Dzire is available in six colour options - Oxford Blue, Sherwood Brown, Gallant Red, Magma Grey, Silky Silver and Pearl Arctic White. Bookings for the compact sedan are already underway at all Maruti Suzuki dealerships across the country at a token amount of Rs. 11,000.
