2016 Hyundai Tucson launched at Rs. 18.99 lakh

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson has been launched in India at an introductory price of Rs. 18.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It is available with petrol and diesel engines, with both getting manual and automatic transmission options. The Tucson will be Hyundai's third SUV in India and will be positioned between the Creta and the Santa Fe.

The 2016 Tucson is offered in three trim levels - 2WD MT, 2WD AT GL, and 2WD AT GLS. The top-end AT GLS trim will be available only with the diesel engine.

The third-gen Tucson features Hyundai's Fluidic 2.0 design philosophy. As a result, it gets a large chrome-lined hexagonal grille, a pair of sleek headlamps with LED DRLs and horizontal LED foglamps. Projector headlights are standard, while the top-end GLS trim gets full-LED illumination. The side and rear profiles appear to be an evolution of the current-gen Santa Fe's design. The SUV comes with 17-inch alloys on the manual version and 18-inch alloys on the automatic version. Black plastic cladding runs along the lower part of the body. The rear gets LED wraparound taillights and a plastic-cladded bumper with dual exhausts.

Features on offer include dual-zone climate control, rear AC vents, 10-way power-adjustable driver seat and keyless entry & go. Standard features available across all variants include automatic headlamps, puddle lamps and cruise control, while the top-end variant adds powered tailgate with height adjustment and electric parking brake to the feature list.

The Tucson gets a 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has navigation, voice recognition, Bluetooth, Aux-in and USB connectivity. The system is connected to 4 speakers and 2 tweeters.

The Tucson is powered by 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines. The petrol unit churns out 153 BHP @ 6,200 rpm and a peak torque of 192 Nm @ 4,000 rpm. It returns a company claimed fuel economy of 13.03 km/l with the manual and 12.95 km/l with the automatic gearbox. The diesel mill develops 182 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm @ 1,750-2,750 rpm, and returns a fuel economy of 18.42 km/l for the manual variant and 16.38 km/l for the automatic variant.

On the safety front, the Tucson gets dual airbags and ABS as standard, while the AT GL and AT GLS variants get side and curtain airbags as well. Other features offered on the top-end model include electronic stability control (ESC), vehicle stability management (VSM), hill-start assist control (HAC), downhill brake control (DBC), and brake assist. Rear parking sensors and reversing camera are standard across all variants. The AT GL and AT GLS trims also get front parking sensors.
