2016 Hyundai Elantra continues testing, spied again

The 2016 Hyundai Elantra has again been spotted testing on Indian roads. In its sixth-generation, the new Elantra is expected to be launched in India later this year. The car has been spotted testing a couple of times earlier this year.

The fifth-generation Elantra has been on sale in India since 2012. It received a mid-life facelift last year, but it couldn’t really beat its competitors like the Toyota Corolla and Skoda Octavia. Sales of the Elantra have been on a downward trend from the past couple of months, with the D-segment sedan recording just 44 unit sales in May 2016. As a result, the new Elantra is an important launch for the Korean automaker.

The India-spec 2016 Hyundai Elantra would be aesthetically similar to the model launched in various international markets. As a result, it will have a wide hexagonal grille, swept-back headlights, LED DRLs, a shark fin antenna and LED taillights. The side profile will be home to a new set of 16-inch alloys.

Under the hood, the sixth-gen Elantra will get petrol as well as diesel engine options. A 1.6-litre GDi and a 2.0-litre MPi will constitute the petrol options, while the diesel option would be a 1.6-litre VGT CRDi unit.
