1,300 km with my Maruti Jimny MT: Why I want to make it my primary car

I am seriously considering making this my main vehicle and selling my other car (i20 N line).

BHPian pepega recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Just completed ~1300 kilometers with the Jimny in the last week, here are a few thoughts. Maybe this will help those on the fence about this car:

  • Overall trip mileage was 14.5 kmpl. About 1150 of this was on the highway, rest in Bangalore traffic. Can't complain about this at all. Who says the FE of the Manual variant is bad? Even when I was revving it and touching
  • 100-120kmph, it gave 13.3 kmpl. Today's ride, while cruising at 80kpmh, it was giving close to 18kmpl.
  • Cruise control is a boon for boring highway rides. God help me if I have to do another 350-400 km in a straight line soon.
  • Inspires you to go offroad. While on the way back to Goa from Bangalore, I took a detour via Mundgod. Usually, I wouldn't do this but the Jimny begged to get off the highway. The mundgod road was nonexistent in sections where it's being rebuilt, but nothing the Jimny can't handle.
  • Except for U turns, city riding is amazing. I am not worried about scratching the huge resien wheel guards so driving in traffic is peachy. The Auto Start Stop helps with the FE as well. I don't turn it off since it's not necessary to keep the AC on in December weather.
  • My Jimny, which is yet to be 2 months old, is nearing the 3000 kilometer mark. I am seriously considering making this my main vehicle and selling my other car (i20 N line), but need to think more about that first. If I modify this to be more offroad biased, then I'll need another highway vehicle. If I keep this as my only car, then retaining the stock vehicle would be more appropriate, as the stock build is balanced between highway and offroad.

Fuelio logs:

Started at 1672 on the ODO with a full tank, ended at 2943.

After I get a concrete idea of the mileage figures, I will stop keeping these logs because it's a real hassle to remember every fuel stop.

NICE Road today morning:

Spotted a lot of groups of motorcycle riders heading to IBW. They draw attention wherever they go. I saw some locals asking one group where they were going at a fuel bunk. One day, I'll do this trip on a motorcycle as well (but first let me buy a Ducati or a BMW haha).

Mandatory pit stop at CCD right after the fuel stop. Both I and the Jimny were thirsty:

After Bankapur toll, headed off to the Mundgod detour. The roads were being rebuilt and nonexistent in some parts. Would be wary of taking this route again until the construction is complete. Somewhere along the way:

Stopped on the shoulder between Yellapur and Ankola because I thought I could hear a puncture in the front right. Maybe just a stone stuck there, because it's making a tak tak sound every rotation. Couldn't see any nails. Car drove home without issue:

A random shot of the OBD FE Figures.

Now, I'll take a few days off from driving entirely! Either car.
