Pathetic experience: Nissan dealer sends faulty Magnite for test drive

There was excessive vibration in the car at idle. I have never seen so much vibration in any other car.

BHPian don_carmaster recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Hello Folks

I am currently in a fix as one of my cars is about to hit end of its life (Daamn the 10 year rule). Its a 2013 Skoda Rapid 1.6 TDI - the top spec elegance of those times.

What an amazing car it has been - excellent pick up, great mileage and a beautiful experience with Skoda ASS. It has been inexpensive to maintain - I have driven 85,000 km and it never even asked for a clutch repalcement. Now the problem is that 7 months are left in its life.

I am currently looking out for a C-SUV - mandatorily automatic - has to be a safe car with good build and good efficiency - Already have an MG hector DCT top Sharp (Top Spec) and everyone in family loves that the car.

I have my eyes set on Magnite CVT turbo and happened to recently test drive one.

The SA came in for a home test drive.

  • The car was disgustingly dirty from inside and the moment I sat on the wheel i saw a TPMS warning. I asked him what is that for - he was casual about it. Just around the corner of my society - there is a tyre guy and he identified a puncture. I was amazed at how careless the SA was about this fact.

After this, the TD went fuss free but I face two issues, want some of the owners to also confirm.

  • The AC of the TD vehicle was not effective - Infact I neveer felt that it was able to even cool the cabin - it kept tripping on and off whenever I moved from a stand still
  • There was excessive idle vibration in the car - I have never seen so much vibration in any other car - so much so that the front passenger seat was also vibrating along with the car vibration when it was left empty.

I asked the SA about these issues - and told him that if he wants this booking - he has to take the car back, fix these issues and bring back to me with why these occured and I will give him a booking

What are the owners experiences with the above two points?

Also, a deep stress on the fuel economy please, with a guzzler (read MG hector) already in my Garage - I am looking for something that gives good fuel economy.

Here's what BHPian akg7091 had to say on the matter:

DO NOT go for the magnite. A lot of QC issues. My car has had

  • One door handle replaced ( chrome peeled off - they replaced only the driver handle though 3 handles had the same issue ). They refused to replace the chrome on the accessories I had bought even though that too is peeling / rusting. I wash the car once a month / 2 weeks using ph neutral car wash and a pressure washer set on low pressure with RO water. Can't do anything more than this to protect the paint. None of the other cars in the house had chrome rusting issues in the past two decades.
  • HU replaced
  • Bonnet repainted ( paint started peeling off within a year - I have got ceramic coating done )
  • AC trips on idle ( but works very well if the car is moving )
  • Power window switch replaced

Car is a year old and has done 10k. I know I should be encouraging people to buy the Magnite so Nissan doesn't leave India but have to state facts. The car itself is wonderful. Very good cvt. Good performance in city / highways. Mileage if you drive sedately is 20+ on the highways ( Turbo CVT )

Advice needed: Is it worth paying 10L for a Tata Punch AMT

Having owned the Manza for more than 10 years, he now wants a car that is easy to drive around the traffic in the city. Moreover, it will mostly be used only for my father and mother so a hatchback ("taller hatchbacks") would suffice.

BHPian Puh recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Hi everyone,

Just a bit of background:

This is my first post in the forum. I have been a vivid reader of team-bhp for almost a year. The numerous reviews and discussions on our forum helped me to buy my first car (Honda city gen 5 V MT).

What car:

I am writing on behalf of my father (in his mid-50s). He currently owns a 2010 TATA Indigo Manza and is now looking for a change. He has had hassle-free ownership and decent experience with the TATA ASS.

Requirements:

Reliability:

He plans to keep the car perhaps for the next 8-10 years. Therefore, reliability and hassle-free (& pocket-friendly) ownership are the topmost requirements.

Fuel efficiency: With the ever-increasing fuel prices, it is quite reasonable that he wants a fuel-efficient car.

Budget: 10 Lakh INR (OTR)

Fuel type: He is very particular about this. He wants petrol only.

Transmission: Automatic

No sedan: Having owned the Manza for more than 10 years, he now wants a car that is easy to drive around the traffic in the city. Moreover, it will mostly be used only for my father and mother so a hatchback ("taller hatchbacks") would suffice.

Where are we now?

My father has been considering the change for quite some time now.

Given his previous (good) experience with TATA is a bit biased towards the TATA stable (being an Indian brand makes its case stronger for him).

However, until recently most of it was just some random chats with me.

Last week, he test drove the Punch and is very much impressed by it. He has virtually decided to go for the Punch Kaziranga edition which comes with all the bells and whistles.

Personally, I am a bit skeptical about his decision for a couple of reasons:

  • I feel 10 Lakh OTR for the Punch is too much. He will be paying for features like connected-car which will be seldom used.
  • Having read about the hit and miss TATA ownership experience of the forum members, I am not sure whether going with Punch is the correct decision at this time. Will waiting for a year or so for the initial niggles to be ironed out be better?
  • I feel the SUV tag commands a premium in India. Altoz might be a good option to consider.
  • Even for the Punch, I feel VFM option will be to go with a lower variant (and get the additional accessories installed if required).

Looking forward to your suggestions and advice.

Thanks

Here's what BHPian shancz had to say on the matter:

I think your father isn't just impressed by the Punch's looks and size but also the higher seating which makes ingress/egress and driving so much easier, especially in the city.

Altroz would come with lower seating which might not be preferred and so would the Tiago/Tigor.

Most importantly if he likes the Punch, get it in the model he desires.

You should be happy that he has already selected the car.

The FE won't be that impressive but I am still to meet a private car owner who has sold his/her car due to FE( talking of petrol only).

Just to suffice yourself you can check with him if he wants anything smaller with similar seating like the Ignis but I would guess it would be a no.

Here's what BHPian saikishor had to say on the matter:

Why not try a WagonR? WagonR has immense space at the rear. And given Maruti's service network, it should be more easier to get it serviced when compared to the Punch. And I believe WagonR is much more reliable than the Punch. Another suggestion will be the Honda Jazz CVT, just for the smoother CVT experience.

Punch isn't a bad choice, but the engine in it definitely makes other cars look like worthy contenders.

Here's what BHPian asit.kulkarni93 had to say on the matter:

Your requirements have one answer- Honda Jazz CVT.

1. Easy to drive

2. Easy to get in and out

3. Smooth CVT

Don't waste your 10 lakhs on any AMT equipped car. Any AMT in comparison with a TC or CVT or DCT will feel like a compromise. The Jazz V CVT should be available for 10.6L.

TPMS shows a warning during the delivery of my brand-new Nissan Magnite

I've been promised a replacement tyre but it has already been over a month now.

BHPian devregister recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I have a Nissan Magnite (Premium-CVT-Turbo). It comes with CEAT Secura Drive 195/60R16 89V.

I got a flat tyre as I rolled off the showroom, I found it thanks to the TPMS system. The SA promised a replacement tyre and it's been over a month now (but that's another forum post I intend to make soon). They replaced it with a tire from a non-premium Magnite (from a showroom car) and the TPMS system threw up a warning of "Check Tyre Pressure Sensor".

This is likely because the non-premium version does not come with a TPMS sensor installed(?)

This has got me thinking that any tires that I buy in the future will likely need to have a TPMS sensor pre-installed.

I looked up on CEAT's website, but they don't seem to provide any information on whether CEAT Secura Drive 195/60R16 89V has a pre-installed TPMS sensor.

I was wondering with so many cars now coming with TPMS, how does the tire replacement work? Do we need to get these sensors installed from the aftermarket?

Any advice / discussion on how to tackle this?

Here's what BHPian harsh79 had to say about the matter:

As per my experience with an aftermarket model in my car, the sensor is in the valve.

Here's what BHPian deep_bang had to say about the matter:

Typically the sensors are integrated with the valves even for high-end cars. So I would suspect that the Magnite also does the same. Either way, the tyre vendor who removed the old tyre should have told you about this.

There is a variant of TPMS that uses the abs system to detect a loss of tyre pressure. However, I am not sure if the Magnite uses such a sensor. In this case, it may be related to the ABS sensor too.

Perhaps other Magnite owners may be able to confirm. But I would say, first talk to the tyre dealer and ensure the old sensor is secured. That's the easiest path to follow first.

Here's what BHPian anandpadhye had to say about the matter:

They just had to take out the old sensor when they removed the tyre and fit it back when installing the new tyre. They may have forgotten.

Nissan has no plans to exit the Indian market

Nissan Magnite bookings have crossed the 1 lakh mark and the waiting period is now around 5-6 months.

Putting an end to all speculations, Nissan India MD Rakesh Srivastava has confirmed that the brand has no plans to exit the Indian market.

Srivastava stated that Nissan India was focusing on its core models and segments as part of the larger global transformation strategy. The Magnite is the first model to be launched under the Nissan NEXT program.

The Nissan Magnite was launched in December 2020. Bookings have crossed the 1 lakh milestone, while 50,000 units have been produced till March 2022. Nissan India's top boss also revealed that more than 18,000 customer bookings for the Magnite are on a waiting period of 5-6 months.

Earlier this month, Nissan announced the phasing out of the Datsun brand in India. In response, a Member of Parliament tweeted, "Japanese car company Nissan is going to be closed in India." This had fuelled rumours about the company's exit from the market.

My Nissan Magnite turns one: 1st free service & ownership update

I have noticed that the fuel efficiency of the car has improved. In fact, it has become more efficient than my Maruti Alto LXi.

BHPian swiftvxi06 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Update - 1st Free Service

On 1st April 2022, White Beauty was taken to Autorelli Nissan Topsia Workshop for repainting a part that had peeled off on its own. This part was part of the new boot which was replaced following an accident which we met in February 2022.

The paint peel off

The car was inspected and sent for repainting of the whole panel. It was done in a heat chamber in the paint booth. The car was masked in a very professional manner and the painting was done.

The car being masked at the paint booth

The whole car under the mask

The peeled off area applied with putty

Voila! The newly painted panel

After painting, the car was sent for its First Free Service. The technicians at the service center changed the engine oil, gear oil, air filter, done wheel alignment, as per the First Service protocol.

White Beauty raised for servicing

Since I had Nissan's Pre-Paid Maintenance Pack (Gold Care), I only paid Rs 324 as the final bill amount (for wheel weights that aren't covered under the package). Overall servicing was done very well.

The Maintenance packages of Nissan are superb value for money and are very much cost-effective compared to the competition.

White Beauty Celebrates Her 1st Birthday

On 12th April 2022, Our White Beauty (Nissan Magnite Turbo XL) turned one year old. We celebrated the day with a small cake cutting ceremony. Here are the pics:

Old Memory- Delivery Day Picture from Autorelli Nissan Kolkata

Over the last 1 year, White Beauty has been driven a total of just 2600 kms majorly owing to working from home due to the pandemic and not being used regularly since we use our other car ie the 2008 Alto LXI Celebration Edition for going to congested parts of Narendrapur and Kolkata where it's easy to drive in an Alto, negotiating the tight small lanes.

Over this 1 year of ownership, I have noticed that the car has become much more fuel-efficient compared to its initial days (maybe it was still in its run-in period, experts can surely throw some light here), from 10-11kmpl in the city, it was now gone above 16-17kmpl (with AC on) and without AC it is returning around 17- 18kmpl in a city like Kolkata (Tankful method calculations). This actually stunned me and it's more efficient than my Alto LXi. The engine and pick up are still very smooth and there haven't been any rattling issues in the car till now (touchwood). Heard that initial prototypes had some issues with respect to fitment and rattling. Nissan's Service Center in Kolkata has been very supportive and their service quality is good.

Advice needed: Sold my Camry & Grand Vitara, considering a used Magnite

Being 6 ft tall and used to big cards, I narrowed down on the Tata Nexon and Nissan Magnite Automatic.

BHPian Styler recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Dear Nissan Magnite Owners,

I have always owned big cars in my life. Starting with Contessa Classic when I was 24, to Cielo, to Scorpio, to Toyota Camry followed by Grand Vitara 2.0 and Grand Vitara 2.4.

Being in Delhi I had to sell my Toyota Camry and Grand Vitara 2.0 as both these are completing 15 years in the end of 2022. Now I have only the Grand Vitara 2.4L Manual 2012 left with me.

I wanted to buy a second car, primarily for my wife and daughter to drive. They insist that they need a smaller car, and preferably an automatic, they just can't handle a big car like the Camry which we owned till now. Being 6 ft tall and used to big cards, I narrowed down on the Tata Nexon and Nissan Magnite Automatic. My wife and daughter could drive it regularly and I could also drive it occasionally.

I just came across a 2021 Nissan Magnite XV CVT TURBO Petrol Automatic 2021 12K Kms done. The seller is asking for 9.5 for this.

I see that the on-road price price for this in Delhi would be around 10.5 Lakh. What would be a good price to offer for this pre-owned one ?

Looking for advice from Magnite owners here.

Thanks.

Styler
