Sad news: Maruti rules out Jimny for India

According to a media report, Maruti Suzuki is not likely to launch the new Jimny in India.

Maruti Suzuki's R&D head has told the media that a recreational vehicle like the 3-door Jimny is unlikely to drive sales given how small this segment is in India. Currently the only other recreational vehicles in its price point are the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.

The fourth generation Suzuki Jimny was launched in Japan in July 2018. The SUV is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 101 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm of torque @ 4,000 rpm. It has all-wheel drive and a low range transfer box and comes with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox.

Maruti Suzuki has also ruled out the Swift Sport for India. According to the company, the 1.4-litre, Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine would drive up costs, making it unviable for the Indian market.
