Maruti Suzuki's latest teaser: It's not the Jimny

The 5-door version of the Jimny is expected to debut in 2022. It will take on the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door.

Last week, Maruti Suzuki had released a teaser on Instagram with the hashtag #SUVForAdventure. This led to speculations that Maruti might be gearing up to launch the Jimny. However, the excitement was short-lived.

Maruti Suzuki has released a third teaser which confirms that it was about the S-Cross and not the Jimny.

That said, Maruti does intend to launch the Jimny in India. Initially, we could get the 3-door version, followed by a 5-door version, which is expected to debut in 2022.

In India, the Jimny will likely be powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder K-Series petrol engine producing 101 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm @ 4,000 rpm. The engine is likely to be paired with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The Jimny will lock horns with the Force Gurkha and the Mahindra Thar.

India-bound 5-door Suzuki Jimny spied undisguised

The 5-door Jimny is likely to make its debut around July 2022.

Maruti Suzuki has already started manufacturing the 3-door Jimny in India, but it's the 5-door version that will be introduced in the Indian market. The car has now been spotted completely undisguised, but the spy images come from a rather unlikely source - Google Street View.

The 360-degree camera atop a Google Street View car spotted a 5-door Jimny without camouflage somewhere in Japan. It measures just under 4 meters in length and has a wheelbase of 2.55 meters. The 5-door version weighs 1,190 kg, and its ground clearance is 210 mm.

Reports suggest the 5-door Jimny could be offered with a 1.4-litre, mild-hybrid, turbo-petrol engine. However, in India, Maruti could offer the mild-hybrid system only as an option. The Jimny is also expected to come with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit that is likely to be mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Australia: New Suzuki Jimny Lite confirmed for August launch

The new Suzuki Jimny Lite will be a more affordable version of the popular compact-SUV.

Suzuki has announced a more affordable version of its popular Jimny SUV. The new entry-level variant will be called the 'Jimny Lite' and is expected to go on sale in Australia from August 2021.

The new Suzuki Jimny Lite will miss out on a number of features and equipment, compared to the standard SUV. This includes 15-inch black steel wheels instead of the alloys, halogen headlamps with no fog lamps and plastic-textured ORVM covers.

Similarly, the new Jimny Lite will also miss out on certain features inside, including the 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. It will be replaced by a basic 2-DIN audio system.

The Jimny Lite will continue to be powered by the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 102 BHP and 130 Nm. It will, however, be offered with a standard five-speed manual gearbox, without the optional automatic transmission.

Reports also suggested that the Suzuki Jimny Lite will be manufactured in Japan, unlike the standard models which are built and exported from India.

Suzuki Jimny long wheelbase spied

The long wheelbase version of the Jimny is expected to spawn a 5-door variant.

A long wheelbase version of the Suzuki Jimny has been spotted for the first time.

The test car seen in these images does appear longer than the standard Jimny. However, it doesn't have a second set of doors, which suggests that this could be the extended version of the commercial-spec Jimny sold in the European market.

The long wheelbase version of the Jimny is also expected to spawn a 5-door variant that could arrive at our shores in the near future. Emerging markets could also get a pick-up version based on the same car.

The 3-door Jimny is already being assembled in India for export markets. It is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine and comes paired with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearbox.
