Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door spied sans camouflage

The Jimny 5-door will compete with the Mahindra Thar 5-door and Force Gurkha.

The 5-door version of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny has been caught testing once again. This time, an uncamouflaged test mule was spotted in Lahaul, Himachal Pradesh.

The test car seen in these images looks production ready. It is finished in the Kinetic Yellow exterior shade and has black wheel arches, bumpers and a black spare wheel cover.

According to media reports, the Jimny could be offered with the older K15B petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech instead of the newer K15C unit. The engine will be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic and Suzuki’s All Grip Pro all-wheel drive system.

It has also been reported that the Jimny 5-door is likely to go on sale in India around August 2023. However, prior to its launch, the SUV could be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo.

Maruti Jimny 5-door won’t get the latest K15C petrol engine

The Maruti Jimny 5-door is likely to be offered with the K15B engine paired with mild-hybrid tech.

According to a media report, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door will be offered with the older K15B petrol engine in India.

The 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine is currently offered in the Jimny 3-door and produces 101 BHP and 130 Nm. The same, is expected to be carried over to the 5-door version, albeit with a mild-hybrid system.

The Jimny 5-door will be available with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Maruti’s new 6-speed automatic, however, is unlikely to make it onto the Jimny.

That being said, Suzuki’s All Grip Pro all-wheel drive system will be available in both manual and automatic versions. It has three modes – two-wheel drive high, four-wheel drive high and 4-wheel drive low designed to tackle the roughest of terrains.

Scoop! Production-spec Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door spotted

The Jimny 5-door is expected to debut at Auto Expo 2023.

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door was recently spotted in Delhi. These images of the car caught our attention, as unlike the prototypes we’ve seen so far, this could be the actual production version.

The Jimny 5-door was snapped as it was being off-loaded from a trailer. While the SUV is still under covers, it’s not the type of camouflage we usually see on test mules. Therefore, we suspect, it could be a production-spec Jimny 5-door.

The Jimny 5-door is expected to debut at Auto Expo 2023. Once launched, it will compete with the Mahindra Thar in the Indian market.

The Jimny 5-door is expected to be offered with the 1.5-litre K15C engine from the Grand Vitara. It will be paired with Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4-wheel drive system.

Mahindra Thar looks massive next to a 5-door Maruti Jimny

The Jimny is expected to be offered with the 1.5-litre K15C engine from the Grand Vitara.

You may have seen spy images of the 5-door Maruti Jimny before. But we certainly haven’t seen a real-world size comparison between the Jimny and the Mahindra Thar

These images of the Jimny prototype were taken by a Thar driver. You can clearly see the size difference when he pulls up alongside the Jimny. The Jimny looks tiny next to the Thar, and this one’s actually the larger of the two versions.

In India, the Jimny is expected to be offered with the 1.5-litre K15C engine from the Grand Vitara. It will be paired with Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4-wheel drive system.

Mahindra is also working on a 5-door version of the Thar. Given how massive the 3-door version looks, the 5-door Thar will be enormous.
