VW Group plans 4 new models. No diesel variants

As part of its India 2.0 project, the Volkswagen Group has planned 4 new models for India, neither of which will get diesel variants.

The first model to be based on the India-specific MQB-A0 IN platform will be a compact SUV under the Skoda badge. It will be launched sometime in 2020 and is expected to be based on the Vision X Concept. Reports suggest that it could be called the Kosmiq. The new SUV will be offered with a 128 BHP 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. It could get CNG variants, however diesel variants have been ruled out as the current 1.5-litre TDI unit cannot be upgraded to comply with BS-VI regulations and the 2.0-litre TDI unit will be too big for it.

The Volkswagen T-Cross will share its underpinnings with the Skoda Vision X-based SUV and will be offered with the same powertrain options.

Around 2021, the VW Group plans to introduce the Virtus sedan in India. It will replace the VW Vento. Skoda will launch its version of the Virtus as well. These cars will also be based on the MQB-A0 IN platform and will use the same powertrains as the SUVs. Reports suggest that there will not be a diesel engine option on the sedans either.
