Honda Small RS Concept previews the next-gen Brio

Last week, Honda unveiled the Small RS Concept at the 2018 Indonesia International Motor Show. It is likely to form the basis for the next-gen Brio.

The Honda Small RS Concept has an upright front grille with a chrome bar flanked by large sweptback headlamps. The front bumper has a black splitter, a large air dam and LED strips on either side. It even has a hood vent. Moving to the side, the Small RS Concept features black 5-spoke alloy wheels shod with low profile tyres. It has black trim behind the front wheel arches and black side skirts. The B-pillar is finished in black and so are the ORVMs and door handles. In the rear, the car features a large roof spoiler, wraparound tail lamps and a sporty rear bumper with an integrated diffuser and dual exhausts.

Honda didn't disclose any details about the engine that's powering this concept. However, the current-gen Brio RS sold in the Indonesian market boasts a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 88 BHP and a peak torque of 109 Nm. It is offered with either a CVT or a 5-speed manual gearbox.

While it is rumoured that the next-gen Brio might be based on the Small RS Concept, reports suggest that Honda might not offer it in India.

Honda launches Pro Care maintenance packages in India

Honda has launched maintenance and service packages for its range of cars in India. The said packages have been introduced for all models in Honda cars India's portfolio, except the CR-V crossover. Honda is also offering various other value added services under the Pro Care packages, including anti-rust coating, paint protection, rodent protection, AC cleaning and interior dry cleaning.

For the Brio, Amaze, Mobilio, Jazz and City, the maintenance packages offer a coverage of 2 years / 40,000 km (whichever is earlier). On the other hand, the packages for Honda BR-V, WR-V and Accord cover a period of 3 years / 30,000 km, whichever is earlier. These packages need to be opted for by the customer before the car's 2nd free service. The said maintenance packages insulate the car owner from any rise in labor or maintenance charges for the said coverage period. These packages can also be transferred in case the car is sold to another owner.

Honda is also offering extended warranty packages for its Indian line-up of cars. These packages can be used to extend the standard warranty of Honda cars by one year or two years. It must be noted that Honda's extended warranty packages must be opted before the lapse of the standard warranty of a car.

The company has further introduced one time warranty packages. Through these packages, a Honda car owner can opt for a warranty, if his/her car is under 7 years old and has less than 1 lakh kilometers on the odometer. The one-time warranty package provides a coverage of 1 year / 20,000 km (whichever is earlier).

The Honda Pro Care also has road side assistance packages on offer. This service offers support for towing, battery jump start, key lockout, taxi assistance and fuel delivery. The RSA packages can be opted till the 5th year of the car's life.

Honda has added express service and repair capabilities to some of its dealerships across India. The company is claiming that these workshops can deliver a car service in 3 hours, while repair and paint jobs can be completed in 4 hours. The company is hoping to expand these capabilities to multiple dealership workshops across India to minimize the downtime for its customers.

The company has also added multiple online services to its official website. Customers can book a service and access service cost calculator on the Pro Care page on Honda's website. The company is also adding user manuals of its cars on the website so that they can be accessed easily by the customers.

Honda Brio facelift spotted at dealership ahead of launch

Images of the Honda Brio facelift parked at an Indian dealership have surfaced on the internet. These images suggest that the launch of the car is nearing. The new Brio made its world debut in April this year at the Indonesia International Motor Show.

On the outside, the 2016 Brio gets a new piano black front grille with a chrome lining on the lower edge. This treatment is similar to the pattern found on the new Honda Jazz. The bumper too has been tweaked and now comes with a larger air dam and beefier fog lamp housings. There are no visible changes to the rear or the side profile of the car. Even the alloy wheels look identical to the ones currently being offered.

The biggest change to the car is on the inside. It gets a new dashboard, which is similar to the one offered with the facelifted Amaze and the BR-V. The all-black dashboard gets a vertically stacked centre console that has been slightly tilted towards the driver. Silver inserts are added near the AC vents and the passenger side of the dashboard, while piano black inserts detail the centre console. The instrument cluster has also been updated with new dials and a larger design, though it doesn't get the bigger MID display with FE meter from the Amaze facelift.

Features on offer with the Brio facelift will include an all-new 2-DIN audio system with Bluetooth, steering mounted audio controls, Honda Connect mobile services, and an automatic climate control.

The facelifted Brio will continue to be powered by the same 1.2-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder petrol engine as the current model. This unit develops around 87 BHP and 109 Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Indonesia: Honda Brio facelift unveiled

Honda has revealed a refreshed version of the Brio hatchback in Indonesia. The car gets changes to both - its exteriors and interiors.

The refreshed Brio gets a front end similar to the one we have seen on the Amaze facelift that was launched in India earlier this year. It has a wider grille with a thick horizontal slat in the middle, a redesigned bumper with a honeycomb mesh grille and new fog lamp housings. At the rear, the car gets a thick chrome strip on the tailgate just above the bumper and an LED stop lamp. The car rides on new 14-inch alloy wheels. For the Indonesian market, Honda has also introduced an RS variant of the Brio with 15-inch alloy wheels, side skirts, projector headlamps and LED position lamps.

On the inside, the Brio gets a new beige and black dashboard with silver inserts and a redesigned centre console. There is a new 2-DIN JVC audio system and a climate control unit. The RS variant comes with a 6.2-inch touchscreen infotainment unit.

The refreshed Brio uses the same 1.2-litre petrol engine as the outgoing model. However, the power plant now produces 89 BHP and 110 Nm of torque - 1 BHP and 1 Nm more than the outgoing model. While the 5-speed manual gearbox has been retained, the 5-speed conventional automatic gearbox has been replaced by a CVT.

According to a report by Overdrive, the refreshed Brio is expected to go on sale in India by the end of 2016.

Indonesia: Honda Brio RS spied

The Honda Brio has been spied in what appears to be the RS variant. Snapped in Indonesia, the car in the picture receives a healthy dose of alterations at the front. The changes are similar to what the Mobilio RS gets over the standard Mobilio.

Expected to launch in Indonesia soon, the Brio RS gets a new set of projector headlamps with day-time running LEDs, different (possibly larger = 15'') alloy wheels, a new, wider black front grille that touches both headlamps and gets a chrome accent underneath, side skirts, and a new Mobilio RS like front bumper with integrated fog lamps and a honeycomb mesh patterned air dam. The car also features black interiors like the regular Indonesia-spec Brio.

The changes are most likely only cosmetic and the car is expected to continue with the 1.2L petrol engine. A screen-grab from a government database indicates that the car will be available with a CVT automatic gearbox. It remains to be seen if something similar will be offered in India, though an update of this kind won't be enough to cause a significant spurt in the Brio's tanking sales in India.

Rumour: Next-gen Honda Brio might get a different name

A few days ago we had reported spied images of the Brio facelift, which is to be displayed at the Gaikindo Indonesian International Auto Show 2015 (link to news article). It is already known to us that the next-gen Brio is likely to make its debut in 2017 (link to news report).

This time around Autocar reports that Honda might drop the 'Brio' badge from the car to dissociate it from the mediocre innings of the first-gen of this hatchback in the country. However, Honda is yet to release any official statement on the same. The Brio has been around in the Indian market since 4 years now, but it failed to create any significant impact in the market partly due to its quirky exterior styling and partly due to its competent rivals from the Maruti and Hyundai stable.

The next-gen of the Brio hatchback is likely to be based on the same platform as that of the outgoing car, however, it is expected sport a completely new bodyshell along with new interiors. Rumours suggest that the glass tail-lid might be replaced with a conventional unit too.

While Honda hasn't confirmed anything, the report goes on to suggest that it is likely to be powered by the same 1.2 litre i-VTEC petrol motor, with a manual and an automatic gearbox option. A 1.1 litre, 3-cylider diesel motor derived from the 1.5 litre i-DTEC is speculated to make its debut in the Brio too.

In Indonesia the Brio will be available with 1.3-litre and 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engines. It will get automatic and manual transmissions.
