Yamaha to transform India into a major export hub by 2030

Yamaha has already commenced exports of the Ray ZR scooter to markets in Europe.

Yamaha plans to transform its India operations into a major export hub by 2030. The bike maker’s manufacturing unit will not only serve the domestic market but will also produce premium motorcycles for markets in Europe, the United States and Japan.

According to Eishin Chihana, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India, the company has already commenced exports of the Ray ZR scooter to France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Turkiye, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Until now, exports were only focused on emerging markets in Africa, South America and the ASEAN region.

Yamaha plans to leverage the manufacturing capacity in India to produce smaller-capacity engines above 155cc. The larger-capacity models above 900cc will continue to be built in Japan.

Chihana also expressed the need to enhance the quality standards. “We still have many points to improve and some gaps need to be filled when it comes to shipments to countries like Japan and Europe which ask for high levels of precision,” he said.

Indonesia is currently Yamaha’s largest export hub. It serves more than 100 countries across the globe.
