Diwali came early: Got all the parts for my classic Yamahas from the UK

I loaded all these parts in my Brio and went and dropped off all the parts at my friend’s place where we unboxed the contents of the other bag too.

“The eagle has landed”

All the parts needed for the Daytona and RZ were already ordered from Ebay UK and delivered to my friends place and only my Yambits order was kept on hold as those parts get delivered in 24 hours and only when my trip to UK was finalised I would place that order. So, as luck would have it last Thursday It so happened that a trip to London was required to discuss a few big reinsurance proposals. Also, I was lucky again a colleague was joining me too so I had extra luggage allowance which will come in handy.

I had seen the pictures of the boxes that have arrived but in order for better space management I would have to unbox them and load everything in the two baggage allowance I had of 23 kg each. But the biggest challenge in that would be the safety of these parts. So, with my colleague joining me that issue was taken care off but still moving so many parts together from my friends place to my hotel and then to the airport and finally my home was not going to be an easy task. I discussed this issue with the Ebay seller as his box was the biggest and he suggested it would be better if I could carry that box as it is as the parts were well packed. So, that is what we finalised that the big black box will be transported as it is and the smaller boxes will be fitted in one single bag so in total we would have three big bags to carry and one large box. The large box alone weighed 15+ kgs and the others boxes together weighed another 15+ kgs.

The next biggest challenge was what if I was stopped by customs at Mumbai airport especially looking at the big black box. In the past two trips the moment they found out I was coming from London they would ask me to go but this time I had a lot of parts. Also, i had paid 20% VAT on all the parts purchased from Yambits so having to pay customs over that would have been a real bummer. Also, the Yambits box always has an invoice so in case I was stopped I could no way undervalue the contents of the box. But since luck has been in my favour all along in a funny turn of events the guy loading the baggage for screening saw that I had come from London and smiling said that only put your backpack on the screener and wished we Happy Diwali and then said do you have anything for me. Now, I would have definitely given him something but my wallet was completely dry as I used up all the pounds I had kept in my wallet and the Indian currency along with some pounds was in my backpack. Also, I didn’t want to give me money in front of everyone and attract unwanted attention. So, with a big sigh of relief I left the airport premises.

Once, home I opened everything in the black boxes which were sent from one particular seller on Ebay UK to confirm no damages and all the contents had made the multiple journeys safely. Only the tank had moved inside the box and a small portion of the primer paint had pealed off. Nothing major and that was a second sigh of relief. I loaded all these parts in my Brio and went and dropped off all the parts at my friend’s place where we unboxed the contents of the other bag too and segregated all the parts. Now, the tank will be fitted on the bike to confirm proper fitment and then a leak test will be done before sending it for a epoxy interior coating and then all parts will go for painting after Diwali..

Some pictures…

Self service but at least they had the luggage trolley to make life a little easier

Size comparison

Proper packing

Amount of packaging material that came out from this one big box

Total stuff that was packed in that one big box

First checking the main part the fuel tank

Looks all good from Top

And Bottom

Except for the primer chip. No dents is the main relief

Looks like it moved in the box and ruptured it

Spare used CDI

OE indicators set for front and back as a spare

Spare carbs. Mostly will be using them after matching the jet and keep the ones on the bike as a spare. Maybe a set of flat slides will make their way on the bike in the future

Engine covers which the seller was very kind enough and put them in the box for free. That is all the stuff from the big box.

The smaller box from the same seller

Fork bottoms for the RZ as a backup

The OE used meter which is period correct for this model

Brio helping out to transport parts for its garage mates

The tall box contains the complete exhaust set for the RD 125 which came from US

All boxes laid down at my friends place

The complete ignition, fuel cap and seat lock set. This is a OE used set with a single key

OE pattern period correct rotor set for the RZ

Wiring harness with gear shifter and tapered cone set bearing

Main jets as spare

OE front foot peg set. These are foldable type as you have to fold the pegs before kick starting it. The rear set are of different type and have bought those as well.

Dynatek ignition coil

Tacho and speedometer cable

Kick set

The replacement master cylinder reservoir kit. Will be using only the internal rubber from this kit as the outer body and top cap will be used from a OE used kit that I have bought

The major different in this and the OE kit is that the this one has only one filler line marking and the OE has two

The bottom part which mounts on the metal body

Air box joint gasket for the RZ

Fuel cap for the Daytona as a backup

Spare new ignition kit. Looks very similar to the one found on the Yamaha Enticer

All the parts of the RZ now kept in one box

Keeping it dry from the recent October monsoon

Waiting for this one to come home now and painting and powder coating the parts is the next thing that has to be executed now
