Yamaha trademarks "Tracer" name in India

The Yamaha Tracer is a semi-faired sports tourer that is offered in 700cc and 900cc variants.

Yamaha has applied for a trademark of the name 'Tracer' in India.

In the international market, Yamaha offers a sports tourer range called the Tracer. The semi-faired bikes offer an upright riding position and come with a tall windscreen. The bikes come equipped with handguards, panniers and alloy wheels shod with dual-purpose tyres.

The Tracer 700 is powered by a 689cc, liquid-cooled, 2-cylinder engine that produces 74 BHP @ 9,000 rpm and 68 Nm @ 6,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

The Tracer 900 uses an 890cc, liquid-cooled, 3-cylinder engine that develops 117 BHP @ 10,000 rpm and 93 Nm @ 7,000 rpm. This motor is also mated to a 6-speed transmission. Both variants come equipped with upside-down fork suspension at the front with a monoshock at the rear.

If launched in India, the Tracer 700 could compete with the CFMoto 650 GT and Kawasaki Versys 650, while the Tracer 900 could lock horns with the Triumph Tiger 900 and Ducati Multistrada 950 S.
